Field stone walls are one of those things that look simple from the road but are anything but. Every stone is different - different weight, different shape, different fit. Getting them to work together into something solid and straight takes real skill and a lot of patience.

Here's what we're working with on this one. We've got the ground prepped and the wall taking shape along a driveway edge. A string line keeps everything running true as we go. That kind of attention to alignment early on is what separates a wall that holds for decades from one that starts leaning after the first hard winter.

The Bobcat is handling the heavy lifting - moving stone into position so we can get down to the detail work by hand. That's the combination that makes this type of hardscaping go well. Machine efficiency for the bulk of it, hand work for the fit and finish. Skipping either one shows up in the final product.

What makes field stone work so satisfying is that the material already has a history to it. These aren't manufactured blocks cut to a spec. They're irregular, weathered, and real - which means the finished wall ends up looking like it belongs on the property, not like something dropped in from a catalog. That natural look is exactly what a lot of homeowners are after when they reach out to us for this kind of work.
